So, yes, I want to cross the state of Arizona by way of riding my bike. This has been an interest for some time however things have continued to get in our way over this year. 2019 has just been probably the worst year for bad things happening in our lives.
Today’s article will not only go over yesterday but a plan that will start from today until it’s accomplished. Let’s go over the usual sections and then in the section below I will go over the goal to ride my bike across Arizona.
Running on fumes yesterday would be an understatement. Several tasks that I wanted to complete yesterday didn’t even get started. With Pugsley teething sleep has been something that hasn’t been happening until last night. Finally, last night Pugsley and I were able to sleep through the entire night, it was awesome.
The morning started great with our cup of coffee as we woke up to play with the munchkins before starting the day. We’re getting Pugsley and Lilith on a nice solid routine of when food is put out and times to go in and outside. They started their usual morning playtime while we started our workout.
Annika did her morning Peloton workout and bike ride and then I did about 25 miles on the Peloton. Our workouts, our indoor cycling, the housework and all were done by 5am. Once this was all done I attempted to stream a bit of Overwatch however that didn’t go too well with all of the horrible players on so it was time to start working on training Pugsley.
I was so tired trying to get through the day that I had to head to the store to grab a Coke but was too tired to walk. A Lyft scooter was outside and I thought, wow this would be fun. I set up a quick Lyft account and got on the scooter to go to the store and back, it was more fun that I’d thought it to be. As the day went on the afternoon hit and it was time to get Lilith and Pugsley to the vet. This leads me to the next section of this post.
Adventure’s of our Little Munchkins (Our Furry Critters)
It was another adventurous day for Pugsley and Lilith. These two munchkins spent yesterday morning playing, wrestling, munching and sleeping. These two have got the life.
Each day we focus on training these two and yesterday was no different. Pugsley was a bit tired all day and would fall down every few minutes to catch a nap in between walking from point A to point B, haha. It was very cute to see him do this. He finished his de-worming yesterday and today we have to get a stool sample for testing so that he can get his shots. Lilith did well all day, however, she has continued to learn what not to do and then that is the first thing she does, typical kitten.
The afternoon hit and we packed them up for their vet visit. Once again when we visited the vet the staff came to greet them. Lilith and Pugsley are doing great and are nice and healthy however we’re waiting to see if Pugsley has a food sensitivity. We will know more on this within a week or two. Both Pugsley and Lilith gained a pound each as Pugsley is 5.5 pounds and Lilith is 2.3 pounds. Healthy fat munchkins, and happy to boot.
Adventure Cycling / Zwift / RGT Cycling / Peloton / Fitness
So we got our Peloton workouts in yesterday and I was aiming to get on Zwift or RGT Cycling however with minimal sleep doing much more working out or cycling at all was way too much for my body to handle. Several items of yesterdays tasks within cycling, bikes, or our gym didn’t get taken place so those tasks will be done today now that I’m rested.
This morning we’re working on our workouts on the Peloton, I need to fix my tire on my road bike (Icarus). And then I want to focus on planning my next really big ride which will require a lot of riding before it. More on this below.
PC Gaming and our Twitch Channel
So no the stream yesterday didn’t go as hoped however I did get to play a bit of Overwatch later in the day with some friends. Today after my workout I will turn on the stream and do a bit of Arcade and Quick Play as I talk about riding bikes and more on our Twitch Channel.
Movies, TV Shows, Concerts and Outings
I didn’t get to look over any TV Shows of movies yesterday that are actually mentionable. We are starting up the second season of Dark, we’re pretty excited to see what happens.
We do have a few movies on our watch list and yes I did see a few yesterday, however, Pugsley, Lilith and I were dosing off continuously so we don’t remember much.
Today’s Adventure and/or Plan
The plan today has a lot in motion. On top of our normal routine, I have to grab a stool sample from Pugsley and take it to the vet. Icarus needs some TLC and a patched tire or replace the tires, one or the other works for me. Training with the munchkins which is a daily thing and soon, we will be taking Pugsley for classes.
Our live stream on Twitch will take place for an hour or two with some Overwatch gameplay once our workouts are done. The final part of the plan today is to work on organizing my bike ride across Arizona.
Crossing the State of Arizona by Bike
I’ve been wanting to cross the state of Arizona on my bike since I started riding. The day I rode on the BeeLine Highway all who knows me said this was my purpose that I was made to ride a bike. Annika and I have been trying to organize a time that we both can do this trip and things have always gotten in the way. Our schedules have been hard to line up while everything else that just kept happening that was out of our control.
For the last couple of years, Annika and I have been saving to do stuff like this or to just have saved and when January hit we had everything lined up ready to ride like crazy. Marley was dealing with treatments for her CKD however the treatments were going good. Everything looked perfect and we had plans to pick up our Surly Pugsley bikes in June; we had everything ready to roll and then we got the phone call.
Our son needed our help, he had every story to tell us, we helped him and at the same time got stuck helping his girlfriend as well. Little did we know that once again we were getting taken for a ride by the two of them. They ended up burning every bridge that they had while the chaos they brought into our lives caused so much stress that not only did Annika and I almost have a nervous breakdown but Marley’s health went downhill very quickly during the 3 months they were here. Once we got them out of our house and started calculating how much damage was done, we found that we were going to be paycheck to paycheck for a bit to get things back. Our savings were almost depleted, Marley was very sick and the vet bills increased. Since our son and his girl have been gone things have started going forward very fast however we lost Marley June 2nd.
So now that we’ve had all of that on our plate which stopped us from doing big bike rides or accomplishing anything we’d planned, now we’re going forward again and I plan to cross the state of Arizona on my bike in October of this year at the latest.
I’ve created a project page where I can plan this all out. The trip is about 700 miles and I will be riding by myself at this time. I haven’t ridden an overnight bike ride ever nor have I ridden distance like this so I will be getting my legs in shape to handle the number of miles needed to accomplish it. We’ve reached the point that no matter what gets in our way, nothing will stop our plans now. Today I will work on the project page and over the next few days get the plan fully together. So if you’d like to keep up with it you can check the page a few times a week for updates. Also if you’d like to track my ride through my Spot GPS, consider becoming a Patreon supporter and gain access to the link. More to come on this over the week.
You Know the Drill
Alright, gang, You know the drill. Time for coffee and to get the day started, we can’t thank you all enough for the support and we look forward to bringing you another day in our nutty life tomorrow. Have an epic adventure day. Also a special note, we’ve updated some of the information below and even added to it.
“You’ve reached the end of today’s story”
We like to keep in mind daily that not only are we always focusing on riding our bikes long distance but also that many people we know or even do not know are out on the roads and trails traveling. So if you’re out on the road driving a car please be extra cautious and watch for cyclists who may be on the road with you day or night.
We are working on a project called #AZBIKEANDHIKE. Currently, we have a Strava Club set up for #AZBIKENHIKE‘s Cycling and Hiking. We’re working on the website as we plan it to be a community for the people in Arizona that love to ride bikes and hike. Our goal is to also share great places to get gear, trails to ride or hike, and just awesome fun places to enjoy the outdoors in Arizona. More details to come as this project progresses, we can say at this time that this site will not rely or have profiles on any social media such as Twitter, Facebook, or other.
